- There were many landlords long ago in Ireland. These men made the people pay heavy rents and if they refused to pay they were evicted.A man named Tom Duff who lived near Taghmon was evicted from his home by a landlord named Browne. He had just been at the Chapel one morning and was having his breakfast when the bailiffs came in and ordered him out. Then they threw his furniture out on the roadside and he had to get shelter from the neighbours and earn his bit by working for them.
