  1. The people ate three meals a day in olden times, breakfast, dinner, and supper.
    The breakfast was eaten at six in the morning, the dinner at twelve, and the supper at six in the evening.
    The people rose with the sun and ceased working when it went down. They worked very hard before there breakfast. The men's work usually consisted of drawing seaweed to the land at certain periods while at other times they ploughed the land.
    The women usually churned, milked the cows, prepared the breakfast, and did all the work in the farm yard so as to be able to go into the fields after breakfast.
    The same food was not eaten at every meal. Breakfast consisted of Indian meal stirabout which was eaten only those who could afford to buy Indian meal. Oaten meal stirabout was eaten by the people who could not afford to buy Indian meal.
    This was made from oats from which the hulls had been taken. The very poor people who could not afford to buy oaten meal or Indian meal had potatoes
