- There was an old woman living in Kilmuckridge, Gorey, and she had only one cow.
There was a rate-collector named Handly who came once a week to collect the rates.Once when he came this woman had not the money to pay; so he seized the cow. The woman was very much annoyed and she followed him along the road. When they came to the next house there was a man standing outside the gate. This man knew that the woman was poor and that the cow was her only way of living. So he went up to the rate-collector and hit him so hard that he put him into a pool of water in the centre of the yard. The woman drove her cow home and the rate-collector never seized anything after.- Collector
