    And then I wondered could it be an ointment for the hair,
    For though I am both old and grey I on youths foibles keen,
    And soon upon my pate I'd rubbed my mite of Margarine.

    Of course you know in prison your not allowed to talk,
    And when your out at exercise you must like an Indian walk,
    And if you dare to nod or wink or oven cough or sneeze;
    They've a way down in them seperate cells to bring you to your knees,
    Why if you try your boot to tie without you raise your hand,
    A warder with a baton will a reason soon demand,
    Or you might face a musket with its bayonets glistening sheen,
    Thats why I couldnt ask the boys about the Margarine.

    Well over there in Dartmoor its well that you should know,
    That Anon when the summer weans the feet and feet of snow,
    And though you wouldn't think it now sure even convict Rogues.
    To keep out the icy water must try and grease the brogues,
    And then I tumbled to it and my mind was ill at ease,
    To think that I had ruined my hair with dirty leather grease,
    But I fairly well succeeded my thoughts from it to ween,
    As I dosed my souls and uppers with my mornings Margarine
