It was opened for worship in 1862.
The old church in Clonattin was originally dedicated to an Irish saint, whose feast was celebrated on July 13th, but in the thirteenth century it was re-dedicated and placed under the patronage of St. Michael.
Ever since St. Michael has been the patron of the church and parish of Kilmachilogue or Gorey.
For a long time prior to the building of the new St. Michael's Church, Gorey and Kilanerin were united in one parish. The P.P. resided at Kilanerin. The last P.P. of the united parishes was Canon Patrick Sinnott who was P.P. of 31 years and died in the year 1845.
West of the town of Gorey is the district of Kilnahue. The signification of this name is doubtful. No part of the old church (as the name would suggest) now remains, but the graveyard is very extensive and very ancient. There was a pattern held there annually on August 15th until the year 1798 when it was abolished. Many of those who(continues on next page)- Collector
