  1. I have heard from my father of a man by the name of Doyle from Ballyancron, Carnew, Co. Wicklow.
He was passing by an old gate on the side of the road one night about eleven o'clock when a very large black dog came out of the field and walked behind the man. He put his nose in the man's hand and kept it there till he reached home. The man talked to the dog along the road but it did not touch him.
The animal was never seen after and only by the one man.
It is said that the man thought it was a black calf.
