- 3511798We have an out-farm in a place called "Askinmo," about 2 1/2 miles from my home in Tombrack.
There is a bog near by and in the bog a man named "Antrim Jack" shot a yoeman.
The yoeman was hiding behind a sgeach, but the hammer of the gun which "Antrim Jack had was broken. Out came a woman with a burning stick and placed it on the powder in the gun. The powder went off and the yoeman was killed.
It is said that where he fell no grass ever grew since that day. And to this day the bare spot is there to be seen in the bog.Maighread Ni Choileain. Tuambreac.
1798When the yoemen were fighting against Fr. J. Murphy at the Harrow - one of his men killed a general by the name of Buckey. There grew a strange buck-thorn where the head fell.
They buried him under a large stone. Both the stone and the buckthorn are still there.
