only way of escape was by jumping a pond on the roadside known as Hickey's pond and getting away in safety to his cave. Another thrilling account of his escape was from the harvest field when the people gathered from far and near to reap his wheat crop. He strolled into the field and dressed himself in a flannel waistcoat and a sloushed hat belonging to one of the reapers and worked with the hook. There were two policemen in the field and they never suspected him. There was a poem composed on this event known as the "Reapers of Mollough".
