- Bracklin is my home district. It is in the parish of Daingean and the barony of Upper Philipstown. There are 24 families in Bracklin and 92 people. The people have different surnames but the name Finlay occurs twice. There are seven thatched and 17 slated houses in Bracklin. There are 7 people over 70 in Bracklin. None of them know Irish. There are two sayings about Bracklin
1. “Eggs and rashers for the Bracklin dashers”
2. “Chopped up firs for the Bracklin curs.”
Half of Bracklin is under bog. The land is sandy in places. The rest of the land is good. There is a wood about three acres growing in Bracklin called Finlay’s wood because it is owned by Finlay.
