- St Manchan and St Ciaran once wanted to divide their land between them. They decided to get up early on a certain morning and start walking towards each other. St. Manchan from Lemonaghan and St. Ciaran from Clonmacnoise.
On the day appointed St. Manchan got up and started to walk towards Clonmacnoise as quickly as possible. He kept on until finally he arrived at Clonmacnoise without meeting St. Ciaran.
When he got there he found St. Ciaran still in bed having slept it out.
St. Ciaran then said, "we will have to settle it some other way. Let me throw this cap from here and wherever it lands that will be the boundary". So when St. Ciaran was throwing his cap(continues on next page)- Collector
