- One day St. Ciaran was minding his father's cattle, when evening came he drove the cow and calf home. On the way home he met a very hungry wolf, St. Ciaran been of a charitable nature took pity on the wolf and gave it the calf. When he arrived home his mother was very angry and said "if the calf be on land or sea you must get it." St. Ciaran went back and got the bones and skin of the calf, he carried them home, and left them under the cow's head, he made the sign of the cross over them and the calf stood up perfectly well.
