    footings. Then they leave the turf footings for two weeks. Then they put it in to big heaps. Then they draw it home in June and July and put it in a clamp at the back of the house. Sometimes there are factions held at the cutting of turf. A man gathers all his neighbours to help him cut the turf. He brings a half barrel of portar and gives the men as much as they want. In this way he gets his turf cut. Nowadays there are turf competitions. Prizes are awarded to the best slanesmen, the best barrow-men and to the best footers.
