    Local Happenings
    On Whit Sunday 12th June 1892 Mr. F. A. Waller of Shannongrove Banagher, accompanied by Miss Stoney, Birr, and Mr. Wellington, Rathcabbin, went for a sail on the Shannon in a small boat called Water Wag. When near Meelick Miss Waller who was steering the boat turned it too quickly, broadside to the wind. The other occupants had no time to change over. A sudden squal of wind caught the sail turning the boat over. Miss and Mr Waller disappeared. Mr Wellington succeeded in bringing Miss Stoney to the bank in a very exhausted state. It is thought that Mr Waller was overcome when trying to release his
