- (continued from previous page)Bird Lore (Continued)The thrush likes to build in a hedge, or in an apple tree, or in the forked branches of a hazel tree. It's materials are dry grass, rootlets, twigs and moss and it is lined with wet mud. It's eggs are a greenish blue speckled with fawn, grey or purple spots. It lays from five to six eggs, and the mother bird sits on them for about three weeks. When calling it's mate it seems to say "Tue, Tue", or "Bod-0-link" or "How-do-you-do".It has a habit of hopping along the ground and then taking a quick run like a wagtail, and picks up a worm. The thrush is very fond of snails and to get one out of it's shell it whacks it against a stone.Writer's name: Thomas Giltrap, Kinnitty Parish, Ballincur Townland.
