About 30 years ago matches were made between the farmer's son and daughter and an old man acted as a match maker going from parish to parish. He used be trying to find out how much the people who were going to get married possessed also finding out what possessions they had such as horses cattle and sheep etc. Sometimes a feathered mattress and a three legged stool was thrown in with the girl's fortune.
