There were made in the following way:_ very long thick strong rushes were got in a slough of water. They were first dried over the fire. Then they were peeled and a little strip of skin left on one side to keep them together.
Then they were drawn through grease which would have no salt. Butter without salt was usually used for the purpose.(continues on next page)- Informant
