- Men did the work of horses in olden times. They dug the land with spades, sowed potatoes and corn in ridges, and covered them in with shovels. When the corn was ripe, they used to reap it with a hook, and thresh it with a flail, and afterwards with a threshing machine worked by horses.
The women made their own linen out of flax, and their own thread out of wool.- Collector
