- On the land of a farmer about 3 miles away is a mote.
I'm told that the farmer A- S- went one day to draw sand from the mote. He dug a load and was about to take it away when he heard a voice say "[?] that sand there, there is far better sand at the back of your own house."
The farmer took no notice of this and drew the sand away and kept doing it all day going to bed tired out with his days work.
When he rose next morning his people were surprised to see that during the night half of his hair and beard had turned white and remained white ever after.
