in this district they do not.
When Summer comes the drills or ridges as the case may be, are free'd from weeds and more earth put to the stalks. Then comes the picking and digging of the crop. The diggers take a drill (or ridge) a piece and dig the potatoes our, which are picked up and carted away in buckets to a pit, made somewhere in the field. The pit is made oblong shape and about half a foot in debth. The potatoes are covered with hay and withered stalks then with earth when put in the pit.
The crops generally grown in this district are "Shamrocks", British Queens", " Aran Banners" and others. "British Queens" grow best in this district and white blossom comes on the stalk of them.
It is said that in some districts potatoes were at one time used instead of starch. How they were used I cannot relate.
