- There is only one holy well in the parish which is called St Nicholas Well.
St Nicholas Well is situated one mile to the south of Dunlavin. A sycamore tree is the guide to the well, as it is under its widespread branches. The well and the tree are there a very long time. It is situated on Mr. Fisher's land, and its stream joins a bigger stream further down the field. Their is a low stone parapet around the well to prevent cattle from wading in the water which is supposed to cure boils, warts, burns and other minor diseases. A Dublin boy named Hunter was cured by bathing his eyes in the water, and a short(continues on next page)- Collector
