  2. There are no old people in my district who know much about the famine of 1846 and 1847.
    It affected this district very much because the people of Rathbawn and Rathsallagh went short of food and they had to eat horses, dogs or anything they could find. Before the famine these townland were very thickly populated but thousands of them died during the famine and more of them went away to foreign countries.
