    special occasions such as Christmas.
    Salted herrings and salted meat were eaten by the people on rare occasions.
    They never ate meals late at night.
    Long ago certain customs were attached to periods of the year such as Easter and the night before Ash Wednesday which is called pancake night and pancakes were made on that night and on Easter Sunday eggs were eaten.
    Tea was not used at that time.
    Wooden mugs were used by the people before cups came into use.
