- There was a poet who used to come to Avoca on holidays his name was Thomas Moore. He wrote a song called the Meeting of the Waters, and he wrote another called By the lake whose gloomy shors.There is a tree called Moors Tree that is where he wrote nearly all his poems. The tree fell once and it was stuck up with cement. The tree is rotten and withered now and no leaves grow on it.
