- Holy Wells 2/3/38
On a hillside outside Tinahely there is a holy well,
which is believed to have been blessed by a
bishop.
It is also believed that St. Patrick drank of the
well when he was touring Ireland on his great
campaign.
There is a stone quarry near by and one incident
which occurred to me, was, as I thought very
interesting so I will describe it.
As I was watching the men working far down
in the quarry, some were breaking stones,
others were driving a hole with a crowbar
and sledges in the solid rocks.
One of the men sent me up to the
holy well to get a bottle of water; when I
brought it back they poured it into the blasting
hole.
They hoped by doing this that they would
be able to avoid all accidents in the blasting.- Collector
