The forge in Moyne is owned by Mr Stanley. The door is made of iron. The roof is made of iron and there is one fireplace in it. This forge is beside the road. The tools the smith uses at his work are hammer, a sledge, tongs, anvil, bellows and a rasp. He uses the hammer to bend the iron and to shoe the horses. He used the tongs to hold the iron when its hot. He used the anvil to put the iron on when he is hammering it. He uses the bellows for blowing the fire.
It is worked by the moving of a handle up and down.
It is said that forge water is able to take away warts. - In olden times forges were more plentiful than they are now. There are four forges in this parish. There is one in Rathdangan, one in Knockananna, one in Hacketstown and one in Moyne.(continues on next page)
