- In olden times roads were not as common as they are now, and in many places, some of the old roads that were in use many years ago are still to be seen. There was an old road in the townland of Kilcarney, which is still known as "the old road".
An old road went from Kilcarney through Carrignameil and Carricknamuc and across the hills until it reached Askenagap. In some places parts of it are still to be seen. Another old road went from Carrignameil to Slievenambo. It crossed the brook a small piece further down the river than where the bridge is now. There was a bridge across the brook where the road went but it was swept away in a flood. Some people of the district remember when part of the bridge was to be seen.
A mass path goes from Carrignameil and joins the road in Slievenambo.
