  1. Fairs.
    In this district there are three fairs held. One is held in Rathdrum, one in Aughrim and one in Avoca. There are separate horse fairs.
    When an animal is sold sometimes the farmers will have a drink, sometimes they shake hands.
    When the man who sold the animal is paid, he has to give back luck money. For a pig he gives a shilling, for a bor he gives sixpence and for a cow or a horse five shillings.
