- Potatoes which are to be kept for seed are kept in pits. When the planting time comes near the potatoes are taken out of the pits and the shoots are broken off them. If any of the potatoes are too big for seed they are cut. When you cut potatoes you have to leave at least one eye in each piece.
When sowing put the seed 9" apart Kers pinks and British Queens grow best in this district. We put in the manure before putting in the potatoes. When the potatoes are planted they are covered with about half a foot of soil. Potatoes are sown in drills in this locality. Some people sow them in ridges.
