    An English captain of the King's Forces named Briganey was killed at the junction of Monaline road and the main street. He is buried in Newcastle graveyard. An iron railed in grave with a flat tombstone over the grave with an inscription testifies the manner of this death. Jack Wafer (a respected Protestant) then owner of Killincarrig flour mills was one of the leaders of the rebels. He was killed in Monaline near the "Gridiron" and appears to have been buried there.
