    fixed at one end in a base which rested on the floor while the other and had a split which held the rush candle.
    Generally the fire light sufficed, dry bog oak or deal pieces were kept for night time and these made the fire very bright. When better light was wanted a candle was lighted.
    In Altnadara up to 1900 the people made their own clothes from home-made woollen material.
    Up to the present a good many of the woman spin wool and knit the articles needed.
    These were generally dyed with moss got on stones. At present shop dyes are used.
    Local handy men made '' creels '' and turf baskets.
    Shoe nails were made in Swnalinbar. There were local coopers who made butter tubs, butts, milk-tups, and churns. They made tubs for holding water, feeding cows & by cutting an oil barrel in two-about 4'' of waste was left in the middle and thus the handles were got.
    There were two brothers in Glengevlin who made mill-stones. They generally had three or four mill stones in process of manufacture at the same time.
    Machine made mill stones were introduced-there was no sale for the home made ones, so those being made at that time were left just as, and where they were.
    There is a grand one in Altinure along '' the river '' bank right side about quarter mile from Altinure bridge up the river
