boiled potatoes, a small amount of flour, salt and water. The mixture is made into small balls and dropped into a pot of boiling water and boiled for at least an hour. Then it is sometimes slices and fried, but often eaten as comes out of the pot. Baked "Boxty" is shaped into cakes and baked like ordinary bread.
Bread made from flour was seldom used - a stone of flour often lasted a family a month.
In later years egg-eating at Easter became a habit.
Tea was used very sparingly. It was usually a treat at Xmas. Even until about forty years ago it was seldom bought.
The vessels uses in drinking instead of cups were small wooden vessels called "noggins".
