Later the front of the chimney was enclosed with wattles or rods and plastered with mud. The fire-place was very large and was called a "Farradh". In recent years the fireplace was built with stones and mortar.
The windows were very small and often had no glass at all. Many of the houses had no doors. Hugh Mac Auley Tullynamoltra (2 yrs dead) remembered the time when there wasn't a wooden door in the parish. The doors were made of sally-rods or wattles and some of them were plastered with mud to keep out the wind. These doors were called "curroges" Currógaí. There was one of them on the old Catholic Church at Ardragh in this parish.
