    Mr James Keenan the owner of the lime kiln supplied the above information
    Nail making. Up to about 25 years ago nails were made locally. William Dobbins who carried on the trade in Tan-house Lane, Swanlinbar Co. Cavan was the last nail maker in the locality. He died about 25 years ago aged 70
    Churning. Although there is a Creamery in the village churning is still done in the farmers' house once or twice a week. The churn is wooden round in shape and wider at the top than the bottom.
    The other parts are the lid, the copper or joggler (as it is called locally), and the dash. Both men and women the churning as it is done by hand.
    Anyone who goes into a house where the churning is in progress takes a ''brash'' It would be considered unlucky not to do so as they might take the butter off the churn.
    When the milk is sufficiently ripened it is put into the churn. The
