- My Aunt told me some local marriage customs. In our district marriages always take place during Shrove and before Advent.
She also told me a ryhme for getting married.
Monday for luck,
Tuesday for pluck,
Wednesday the best day of all,
Thursday for loss,
Friday for cross,
Saturday no day at all.
May is said to be an unlucky month to be married in the old saying is married in May you'll rue the day. June is supposed to be lucky.
The days supposed to be unlucky for getting married are Friday and Saturday.
In olden times the people were married at two o clock in the day. They had their breakfast taken before they were married.
When they left the chapel they went for a drive on jaunting car.
They were home to the brides house about six or seven o clock where they were welcomed by the people who were in the house.
