  2. Mot people know how to thatch, but long ago a larger number of them could thatch.
    Reeds or barley straw were the longest on a house. People thatch with rods which are known as scallops. Then they are pointed. The scallops are cut about two feet long.
    People start to thatch at the eve. The thatch is put on about a foot wide, and this is continued until they reach the top of the house. That is called a layer. That is continued until the job is completed. Nowadays people spray the thatch with the spraying mixture that is put on potatoes, to make to last longer.
