  2. "Hurls"
Spaces to the left and right of the brace. They were made of wooden frames interlaced with wattles. There was no covering on the outside. A creelful of potatoes was kept in each hurl to be dry for making potatoe [potato] bread puddings and boxty etc. People have long since ceased to keep potatoes in the hurls, but the hurls still remain and are used for holding odds and ends.
    From Joe Moran, 73.
