- Travelling folk still call to the homes of the people in this district. The same people have been calling for many years. They are generally very poor. Some of them sell small articles. Sometimes people buy from them. They obtain their supplies in cheap houses in Cavan. The travellers are seldom welcomed. They sell basins, gallons and porringers. They beg flour, tea, sugar, eggs and bacon. Some of them sleep in tents and others in caravans. Some of them travel in carts, others in caravans and others on foot. They travel singly, in bands and in families. The travellers that most frequently visit this district are the McCanns. They come to the fairs for the purpose of selling oranges and apples. They bring news from one district to another.
