- In this locality some herbs are used as cures.
Celandine or pile wort as it is called is used to cure piles or haemorrhoids.
Chick-weed is used to reduce swelling caused by a wrench or sprain.
Hemlock a poisonous herb is also used to take down a swelling. The herb is boiled and the affected part bathed with the liquor.
Ferns which are found growing at the roots of whitethorns when boiled in fresh butter and strained make an ointment which heals burns.
Dock roots when cleaned and boiled-the liquor is supposed to be good for a cough.
Dandelion tea makes a good tonic for a delicate stomach.- Collector
