The big battle of Kildallon took place in the yaer 1470, when the war weapons were taken from the secret store at Carn. Kildallon swordsmen then publicly opposed the inauguration of O'Rourke at Croghan. Up to a century ago "fire signals" were used in Kildallon to convey hasty messages in case of Death and Danger. The most important fortresses were Kildallon, Croghan, and Dunaweel. Dunaweel is famous for its ancient military reviews.
The most important graveyard in the Parish is the Relig, about 800 yards from the present Chursh and graveyard. The headstones have fallen into decay, many of them now lying on the graves. At one time people of all denominations were buried here. The Relig is kept in decent form.
The interesting feature in this Relig is the "true lovers knot". Two green trees birches - which have entwined about 2 feet from the ground - an exact representation of a "true, lover's knot". The trees have grown to massive size, the large leafy branches cover most of the little relig.
Various traditions are attached to this bush, the most general is, that 2 young people in the district fell in love. (Con.) on next page.
