    That day was spent cheerful until six in the evening
    On the road coming home we got a surprise
    When inside the hedge we heard men slowly talking
    Is Father Dunne coming was the murdering cry
    At that fatel moment the shot it was fired
    And young Edward Mortan fell dead in his gore
    I think that I see him as he lies there bleeding
    "Edward Mortan" my true love I'll never see him more.
    Father Dunne the good pirate,
    They intended to murder,
    The Lord had not ordained
    That he should fall be their hands,
    But since in this world we are parted for ever
    We hope for to meet in the next happy land.
