    and blew out Bell's brains. The son came into Ballinagh on horse-back. Sergent Spense was lying sick when Bell's son reached Ballinagh and these are the words which Sergent Spense said "Screw on your swords and bayonots boys condemed we are to die". The day of Bell's funeral the protestants gathered to the green of Ballinagh intending to burn Ballinagh and the priest's house in Lacken. There were some rich men in Ballinagh at that time. They subscribed and sent to Cavan for the army. The army came dashing each man with his gun. The commander told the protestants to leave the town three times and the third time they left. The protestants spent that whole long day drinking and carousing until Dolan got away. Dolan had many a hard escape for two years. The people of Cavan, Longford and leitrim tried save Dolan as best they could.
