    the men would go many miles seeking material for camans in the hedges. Shannow and Clonmulcht were the two hurling teams and Mr. Pat Galligan, Shannow was famous on the hurling field.
    Weighthrowing is gone out of fashion now but long ago it was the favourite game. A fifty-six pound weight was the biggest weight that was thrown. A great way people had long ago for making a heavy weight was, a large turnip was scooped out until nothing was left but the skin and a (w)hole in it. Then melted lead was poured into it and in due time this would cool and harden and of a round shape.
