- Some of the people of this locality make a drink called Samains.
It is made from mill seeds or oat meal or both stept in water for a few days until it gets sour.
It is drunk by mowers out in the meadows and is a wonderful drink for quenching the thirst.
In the olden times in the absence of milk the people took Samains with porridge.Flummery.
The water of the samains is boiled until it is evaporated and what is left in the pot is a kind of jelly and is (kind of) the same as corn flour.
The flummery is poured out on a plate and is eaten with sugar. It is sometimes taken as a dessert after dinner.- Collector
