- (continued from previous page)and in many other parts of Ireland it was considered lucky to get a horse shoe on the road. The finder always took it home and hung it up near the entrance door to bring luck to the home. Often it was covered with bright tissue paper or lovely cretonne to make it ornamental as well and it was hung up in a conspicuous place in the entrance hall. Persons who attended the bonfire on St. John's or St. peter and Paul's Eve always took with them when going home some lighted sticks from the bonfire and threw it into their potato-fields or oats fields to bring luck on their crops and make the harvest a good plentiful one.
