- Long ago there were many strange animals in this district such as wolves, wild-boars, and snakes. Since the forests were cut down they were all killed. It is said that Saint Patrick banished the snakes out of Ireland, and there is a poem relating to that incident.
I have heard the following story about a snake which dwells in Mullagh lake. It is supposed to appear once every year at a certain time.(continues on next page)
