- Long ago when people would be travelling they used to have a bag on their backs and a cake of griddle bread in it. When the people would get hungry on their journey they would eat some of the cake.
- In big farm houses enough bread was baked on one day that would do the week. A cross was made on a cake by marking it with a knife.
