    manure in the drills then, the double-mould-board plough closes them. In olden times they used to plough with wooden ploughs but not for the past fifty years.
    Now-a-days you can buy spades in any local town. When the drills of potatoes are in three weeks the top is taken off them with a saddle-harrow and after a time they are grabbed and moulded. In the beginning of July they are sprayed and at the end of three weeks they get a second spraying. The weeds have to be removed before spraying. That finishes the labour of the potatoes until the season of digging. In October the people start the digging of the potatoes. Some people dig with a spade and any potatoes that are planted in ridges have to be dug with they spades. Those that plant them in drills can dig them with a digger. When the digger is working it takes about nine people to gather the potatoes
