- (continued from previous page)Songs of Patrick Traynor The author of these old songs lived in the last century and died before the year 1900. The most famous of all his compositions is 'The Green Walk.'' This describes a procession of enormous size which took place in the year 1872 and on the 3rd August. It was led and organised by the author of this poem. Contingent came to join it from every part of East Cavan. Probably it was the first resurgence of Gaelic Ireland since the banned meeting of Clontarf on the previous decade and certainty the first since the Fenian Rising of 1867. The Green Walk
Ye true born sons of Old Erin Machree
Draw nigh, pay attention and listen to me
Concerning thou bigot and how they did talk
Of the grand 3rd August our noble green walk

There was twenty thousand no doubt to a man
It was a grand march with the flag of Killann
They met in Bailieboro, likewise Mollywee
