    It is held on a hill, called the hill of Muff. It is a great horse fair. The fair of Cootehill is held on a special place called the "cow green" In this part of the country there is no toll paid on cattle sold. When cattle are sold there is usually money given, which is called a "luck-penny" in this part of the country. The man that gets the "luck-penny" spits on it, and says good luck to this money. When cattle are being sold, the buyers strike hands with the sellers, and they argue a great deal about the price of the cattle.
    The cattle are marked in different ways. Some of them are marked with blue of red keel, some of them are marked by cutting a lock of hair of the animal's flank, and some buyers mark them by putting manure on them, this is called "putting up the dirt" When horses are being sold, the halter on which they are brought to the fair is given to the persons which buy
