- Nowadays when people have any ailments they go to the doctor, to the Chemist, or to the dispensary for treatment. In olden times it was different because the people had local cures. The old people had a distrust in doctors and patent medicines. Here are some of the ailments and their particular cures.
This was the cure for head-ache. Horehound was stewed, and the juice drunk. Horehound was an herb.
This is the cure for an ear-ache a stocking -full of hot salt was tied round the ear and sometimes hot-oil was poured into it.
Pepper held up to the tooth with a cloth was supposed to be a cure for the tooth-ache.
Soda and buttermilk was said to be a cure for stomach-pains,(continues on next page)- Collector
